What a fantastic weekend! My mom came to visit me on Thursday and we spent the entire day shopping. Mainly for shoes, but also some clothing in there! We got lunch at the famous 12 Bones BBQ in the River Arts District and an early dinner before calling it a night. Friday morning, Rebecca and Taylor met up with us for a day-trip to Brevard and some of the adjacent waterfalls. Since it was session break, I was able to take them to camp and give them a full tour, despite the quick storm that we had to wait out. After that we headed towards DuPont state forest (where The Hunger Games was filmed) and hit up two of the very best waterfalls there: Hooker Falls and Triple Falls. Both were short walks from a parking area. Hooker falls was super wide and powerful but not very tall. We were able to walk all the way up to it on the side and even sit under the edge of the falls if we chose to get wet! We ended up getting wet anyhow though all thanks to a slippery rock and some clumsy genes. My mom slid and I stepped down to help her and managed to slide right into her! Can't take us anywhere!
We were both ok, albeit wet and sore. Also, my moms camera didn't make it! After Hooker Falls, we went across the street to Triple Falls. OMG, was it gorgeous!
After the falls, we headed back to camp to grab some towels and introduce Sarah and the girls to my family. Then on to Sliding Rock! We just went down once, but it was enough to say we did it!
That night, after changing out of our wet clothes, we headed back towards Asheville for a late dinner at Barely's Taproom and Pizzaria. Beer and pizza, yum! The local Pisgah Brewing Blueberry Wheat was by far my favorite. It tasted like a blueberry muffin- almost no beer taste whatsoever!
Saturday morning my mom headed back towards Cincinnati so Rebecca, Taylor and I had a pretty relaxing day walking around Asheville and shoe shopping. I took them to Chorizo's for lunch and blackberry mojitos, convinced Rebecca to buy a pair of Chacos, then finished off the trip with a visit to the French Broad Chocolate Lounge!
I have a really cool panoramic photo app on my phone called Microsoft Photosynth (free) that allows you to take multiple photos and then stitches them together to create the panorama. Just for fun, I did one of Triple Falls! It's not too shabby for a free app! Click on it for a larger image!
