Taste Test Tuesday

Remember a while back I posted about crack? At that point we had to make enough for 300 servings. I decided a few days ago I wanted Roger to try it so I scaled down the recipe for the everyday baker. It's super easy... as long as you don't burn it, like I did, but hopefully my photos will help you out! Vanilla Crack

2 sticks butter

1 cup sugar

2 tsp vanilla extract

~2 sleeves saltine crackers

1-2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1. Pre-heat the oven to 350. Cover a sheet pan with a piece of heavy duty foil then spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Line the whole pan with 1 layer of saltine crackers, salt side up.

2. Put the butter, sugar, and vanilla in a heavy duty saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and boil it for exactly 5 minutes stirring constantly.

3. After 5 minutes, pour the mixture onto the crackers.

4. Put the pan in the oven for about 8 minutes. Keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn like my first batch did.... I left the room and came back when the timer went off at 10 minutes and there was smoke everywhere... You don't want it to look as dark as the picture below.

5. After you pull the crack from the oven sprinkle your chocolate chips over the top. Let them melt for a few minutes and then spread them out. Let the whole mixture cool before you break it up into manageable pieces-- then devour!

Next week I'm going to test out something Hawaiian inspired- so keep a look out!
