I came across this amazing project via readymade.com. It is a series of 5 minute long videos depicting people doing their various crafts called This Is Handmade. There are no instructions/tutorials/etc. The idea is to get the consumer thinking about how much time and effort goes into the making of handmade goods.
"IF YOU CAN'T SIT THROUGH 5 MINUTES OF MIND-NUMBINGLY BORING ASS HANDWORK, THEN YOU DON'T GET TO WHINE ABOUT HOW MUCH IT COSTS. IT'S JUST AS TEDIOUS FOR US AS IT IS FOR THE VIEWER. IT REALLY IS. AND WE DON'T GET HEALTH INSURANCE."
I think it's a brilliant idea, especially considering my own mother griped about how much I was planning on selling my rugs for (I'll never let you forget that mom!! ;) ) although, once she realized the time and effort that goes into them she apologized profusely and asked if I was pricing them high enough :)
Well, go on now- watch some crafts being made! I could watch the weaving one for hours.
